Be Fully Present - My Writing on Jakarta Post
An
Indonesian photographer who lives in the United States was in charge for his
brother’s wedding documentation. I was following the whole ceremony through his
social media feed. One of his Instagram stories captured the moment when the
couple was walking down the aisle and the guests were holding their phones out
the entire time, along with a little protest in the caption that says, “Be present people. Please BE PRESENT”, which
has become a wake up call for myself.
I begin to
question the importance of online presence nowadays. How most of us invest (or
waste?) too many time and energy on our online persona. Take Instagram stories
for example. That thing disappears within 24 hours! What’s the point really?
How we have become so obsessed to experience life through our smartphone screen
rather than our own eyes.
